I am developing laboratory experiments for large groups of
undergraduate chemistry students. The particular emphasis in this
development is reduction of the volume of chemicals used without
sacrifice of accuracy in quantitative experiments and without loss of
visual effect in qualitative experiments. I am also developing computer software to analyze data from student experiments. This software allows students to enter data and results into a computer and receive instant feedback regarding correctness of calculations and limited suggestions about problems in their data. If calculation errors and/or problems exist in data, the computer encourages the student to make appropriate corrections that are then entered and the results re-analyzed. This software package is still in development, with potential for additional features such as checking for problems in significant figures and giving students instant feedback regarding the accuracy of their data and the score based on that accuracy. |
